“Made using green and olive garden twine and blue and turquoise packaging string, this sturdy crochet bag is perfect for casual weekend shopping. You should be able to find string in all sorts of colors, so get creative and choose your own striped color scheme. Or, work the bag in a solid color and use a contrasting color for the edging. Although the bag is worked in simple single crochet, you need to keep track of the increases as you work, so choose this as your third or fourth project if you are an absolute beginner.” from the book Quick Crochet Huge Hooks by Sally Harding. 2005.

This “bag” is made by crocheting an oval plus two side panels. Fold the oval in half and sew the panels to the sides. Make two handles and attach.

This pattern can be used to crochet an oval rag rug using “tarn” (t-shirt strips cut and pulled into “tarn” = t-shirt yarn) or other bulky material.

You need four markers to keep track of the increases.
