Sugar Season Cowl
Welcome my new cowl pattern with 25% off for the rest of the month of March, 2026! Use coupon code SUGAR.
It’s March in Maine as I write this, which means every kind of weather is possible (currently snowing) though here, as in the rest of the north country, it’s sugar season, no matter what the weather is doing! Overall there are warmer days, but still most nights are below freezing so the sap is running and all sorts of people are savoring a good reason to spend a lot of time outside! For some, it’s a way to enjoy early spring and make a tasty treat for the family, for many others it’s big business! If you can handle the soft, frost-heaved roads, there are many small sugaring operations boiling away (look for the steam!) that welcome you in to watch and taste the wares!
My Sugar Season cowl initially got it’s name from the Vermont-made yarn I used (Junction Fiber Mill), in colors that perfectly reflect this specific time—greyish brown tree trunks, puffy white clouds and bluebird skies. It is also the perfect accessory for this season, keeping the March winds and snow from blowing down your neck!
Instructions are included for 3 sizes, including a simple tubular neck-warmer, a medium length moebius-twist cowl, and a long infinity scarf. All use the same chart and can be made with or without a half-twist. The sample is in the medium size with the half-twist. Directions for joining the 2 ends when the knitting is finished include options for grafting (with instructions) or a three-needle bind-off.
