"Summer Melons" shawl
“Summer Melons” is an easy knit, mostly stockinette but with a few interesting elements. Along with the asymmetry of the construction and the chevron effect, I have included a horizontal braid, as well as some simple openwork and stranded colorwork.
The merino yarn made it block beautifully and though it’s large, (79” from tip to tip and 23” deep) it is very light and airy … a perfect summer accessory.
Note: I have included stitch counts, however, they are not that important; just make sure to do the increases at each end, every row and, as long as there are the same number of sts on either side of the middle st, when you are ready to start the decreases it will work out, so, feel free to experiment with the different elements to make it your own. Just make sure to start your decreases no later than when you reach 177 sts or you may run out of yarn to finish.
The smaller version,(turquoise & peach) was made with Tosh Merino Light - I started the decreases at 129 sts, it measures 68” from tip to tip, after blocking, and 18” deep at the widest part. There was however, quite a bit of leftover yarn.
