This delicate jacket is inspired by traditional matinee styles and features one of my favourite cable patterns. I love how just two stitches – knit and purl – can be placed in different positions to create something so beautifully intricate. So simple, yet so effective.

The combination of garter stitch, smooth stocking stitch and the central cable creates a lovely rhythm – to me, it’s as though the ridges of garter stitch are gently holding the cable in place. A soothing knit with a timeless look. I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I did.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, left front, right front, two sleeves are knitted flat in separate pieces and joined together. Neck edging is picked up after the pieces are knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, simple cables, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, buttonholes, cast off, joining seams, sewing on buttons. Optional but recommended to create a joy of joining your pieces: mattress stitch seaming and three needle cast off.
