Sunburst granny sqaure
The Sunburst Bloom Granny Square is a radiant, color-drenched granny square that builds from a bold eight-point starburst center out into a classic granny square, finished with a crisp single crochet border. It’s designed to be fully beginner-friendly, with every stitch explained and stitch counts given at the end of each round so you can check your work as you go.
This is a single-size pattern: one square finishes at 6in x 6in (15 x 15cm) after blocking. Squares can be joined to make blankets, bags, pillows, table runners, cardigans, and more.
Gauge: 20 sc sts x 20 rows = 10cm x 10cm, but exact gauge isn’t critical for a single square — adjust hook size if you’d like your square to match another maker’s size exactly.
Materials needed:
• Worsted weight (US #4) cotton or cotton-blend yarn in 6 colors — small amounts of each (approx. 5–11g per color, about 44g total)
• 5.0mm (US H-8) crochet hook, or size needed to meet gauge
• Yarn/tapestry needle
• Scissors
• 2–3 stitch markers (optional)
• Blocking board and pins (optional, for a crisp finish)
This pattern uses US crochet terms throughout.
