Dawn breaks on Sunrise Summit creating streams of light through your stitches. Transitioning between single and double stranding methods, hold your shawl up to the rising sun to reveal the beauty of the swinging short row design. Illusion knitting takes a sweeping approach tracing the shape of this shawl / poncho design turning this unique shawl shape into an optical delight. Optional beads on the I-cord tie add another layer of illumination. It’s not just the light that plays with Sunrise Summit – the shape shifting design transforms this shawl into a fun poncho with the addition of an I-cord tie.

The tech edited and test knit advanced level pattern is fully written with a how-to video, schematic, and tying diagram.

Special Notes:

  • Construct It: work top down with short rows and alternating single stranding and double stranding.

  • Bead It: due to the crispness of linen yarn, after beading you may need to adjust the tension. Simply give the yarn a little tug before moving on to the next stitch. You want the beaded stitch to move easily along the needle - not so tight that it doesn’t move, but not so loose that there is excess yarn either.

  • Mark It: Sunrise Summit relies on named markers. You may wish to have 2 different types of markers - one type for A, B, C, D, E, F and another for the two S markers - for easy identification.

  • Size It: sample shows Large size. The wingspan and depth are the same for each shawl. The two sizes are offered particularly for the poncho option. If planning the poncho, make sure half the inner neckline is less than the width across your shoulders. If you still find the poncho too large to sit comfortably on your shoulders, start the cross seaming higher than the start of the wings.

  • Track It: on lace increase rows ensure your markers remain in the correct place.

  • Watch It: video links in pattern

  • Wrap It: pick up wraps as you come to them, if desired. Sample shows all wraps picked up.
