Super Bloom
At first glance deserts may appear barren, but even here, life abounds. Desert ecosystems are some of the harshest and most delicately balanced on the planet and the species that live there are exquisitely evolved to thrive under these extreme conditions. Many desert plants are annuals, living one short intense season. They bloom and set seed while water is available, then die o when the water dries up. The well protected seeds then lay dormant for the rest of the year, waiting for the sparse rain to restart the cycle. However, in years when water is abundant this system goes into overdrive and germination rates skyrocket. For a few magical weeks wild fowers carpet the desert in a wild array of color and texture.
