Surf to Sky Shawl
This is a top down triangular lace shawl. The lace edging reminded me of the lines left by waves at the beach; the rest of the lace moves through dunes and mountains and ends with soft clouds at the center neck edge.
The model is knitted in KnitPicks Palette, a fingering weight yarn; it is knitted using the directions to make the smallest version and takes roughly 60 grams (or approximately 278 yards) of fingering weight yarn. The pattern can be knitted in other weights. Lace weight should take under 500 yards for multiple repeats of a couple of the charts and a shawl measuring about 55” wide and 29” deep. Sport weight will vary more: a large version with multiple chart repeats ended up over 80” wide and 40” deep, and took nearly 900 yards of yarn.
As the pattern works with multiple yarn weights, gauge is variable. The model was knitted with US4/3.5mm needles, but this is up to you and your desired fabric. Larger needles will make larger lace holes and a drapier shawl.
This is intended as a stashbuster pattern. Feel free to use any arrangement of colors as you like - it looks great in stripes and wild color combinations.
The pattern calls for yarn, appropriately sized circular knitting needles (I recommend long ones, as this grows quickly), at least 3 stitch markers, and a blunt tipped darning needle for sewing in the ends.
