Suri Open Front Cardigan
This is a flattering pattern that can be easily resized and adapted for
different purposes. In white with subtle beading it is dressy. Done in plainstockinette it can be used for daywear. Sleeves can be made elbow, threequarter,or full length. It shows off suri’s drape and is light but warm.
Yarn: fingering weight, #1 grade suri or suri blend. Pure
suri will have more drape, blends with cormo or merino will have
more elasticity. 800 yards for small or medium more if you
lengthen sleeves or go to a size 12 - 14.
Sizing: The pattern size as given is a small (4 — 6), for med (8—10) add ! New Shale (NS) to each
side of back , 10 stitches, and ! NS to each under arm (side edge) of the front. This gives you a full
pattern on each side of the back and one full pattern at the armhole edge of the side. Add within the
two stitch edge. For a large, (12 — 14) add two NS patterns to the back and one full pattern to each
front. Each NS pattern knit according to gauge is about 1 1/2” in width.
Charts: Included in this pattern are charts for the decreases, both for back and fronts. They are
included as a way to decrease in the center back and the right and left fronts so that the pattern
continues undisturbed for as long as possible. In order for that to work the decreases at certain points
combine the shaping decreases with the New Shale pattern decreases. The charts are for only one half
of the back, the other half being a mirror image, likewise for the fronts, only the right front is shown.
And the charts are only partial representations of the full piece. Chart symbols are as above and with
the charts.
