This set is named for Surprise Baby Blanket because it uses the same stitch pattern. I used it again because it is very easy to learn and there are no cables to slow you down!

The hat pattern includes several versions in various yarn weights. The cowl can be made from a turtleneck size to a generously sized infinity scarf.

The pattern is for both the hat and cowl.

It includes both written instructions and a chart.

There are 4 hat variations:

Close Fit Hat in aran weight yarn (100 yds)
Close Fit Hat in bulky weight yarn (1 skein Malabrigo Chunky)

Slouchy Hat in aran (with adjustments for a less slouchy or super slouchy hat)
(.75 skein Malabrigo Worsted - 1 skein if you go super slouchy)
Slouchy Hat in bulky weight yarn (1 skein malabrigo chunky)

The cowl comes in 3 sizes worked in Malabrigo Worsted
Small 8 x 6.5”(46 x 17)cm (. 5 skein)
Medium 40 x 7(102 x 18)cm (1 skein)
Large 44 x 11”(112 x 28)cm (2 skeins)
Circular needle size 10(6.0mm)16”(40cm) long for small,
32”(81cm) long for medium and large

Skills needed:
Knit in the round
Simple increases - yo, k1 in front & back, (or any increase you prefer)
Simple decreases - ssk, k2tog

Needle sizes for hats:

Aran weight hats:
16”(40mm) circular needle size 10(6.0mm) for both hats.
16”(40mm) circular needle size 11(7.0mm) for slouchy hat (in addition to the circular size 10)
Double pointed needles size 6 (4.0 mm) for both hats.

Bulky weight hat:
16” (40cm) circular needle size 11(7.0mm)
Double pointed needles size 8(5.0mm)
