The great thing about candy is that it can’t be spoiled by the adult world. Candy is innocent. And all Halloween candy pales next to candy corn, if only because candy corn used to appear, like the Great Pumpkin, solely on Halloween. – Rosecrans Baldwin, American novelist and essayist

Most knitters have a skein of fingering weight self-striping yarn in their stash but Stacie of Must Stash Yarns has a candy corn colorway that was just too fun to pass up for the month of October. So grab a skein from her website or a skein from your stash and cast on. There are two options for textured stitches or just knit in stockinette stitch and for a easy knit that will be off your needles quickly.

Check out the amazing tester’s photos for examples of some of the surprise stripes they knit with varying self-striping yarns.

PATTERN NOTES: This bag is knit first as a flat bottom rectangle in garter stitch and then picked up around to knit the sides to the drawstring double knit top casing. I highly recommend matching the weight of your yarn to the pattern yarn weight that is recommended. (For example: this pattern recommends fingering weight yarn = 460 yards (421 m) per 100 grams (3.5 oz).) Using a skein with significantly fewer or more yards will result in a different product.

SAMPLE was knit with an optional solid (black) bottom weighing 19 g and using 87 yds (to save some of the-striping yarn for future use). The body of the was knit in Must Stash Yarn Fingering Perfect Must Match (75% Wool - Merino 25% Manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide) using colorway Candy Corn weighing 63 g and using 289 yds. Two icords were knit in the Candy Corn colorway, each weighing 4 grams using 18 yds.

Optional: Two US Size 3 3.25 mm double pointed needles for I-Cord drawstring
Optional: Two US Size 3 3.25 mm 24-inch circular needle for knitting casing separately

Recommended to use 2 circulars or magic loop as turning the square corners for the bottom makes the knitting quite tight to manipulate, especially in the first few rounds.

Base of the bag is knit tighter on one size smaller needle for stability. Several testers suggested knitting the bag on a US 1 needle for a tighter fabric. That is, of course, your choice.

NOTIONS: stitch markers, darning needle,
Optional: Twice Sheared Sheep Cord Quill I-cord Tool
Optional Shoelaces: Amazon Shoelaces

Keep it colorful!
