Sutton Courtenay is named for a town in Oxfordshire, thought to have been the site of a major Anglo-Saxon period hall.

These socks feature a ribbed Strong-style heel and ribbing on the leg and foot for a snug comfy fit. Designed to play nicely with self-striping yarn, they knit up surprisingly fast.

The Aston Project was named in honour of Prof. Mick Aston, a regular member of Channel Four’s Time Team. As I watched episode after episode of Mick wearing all sorts of stripy jumpers, gloves and hats, the concept for the project came to me: sock patterns made just for self-striping yarn!

Sutton Courtenay was featured on Time Team in season 17, episode 5

About sizing: the stitch counts for the three available sizes are 60, 68, 76 sts. The smallest size fits a 7.5-8-inch diameter foot nicely.
