Huckaback Hat
A Hat inspired by Swedish Embroidery Motifs, Huck Weaving & Beautiful Malabrigo Rios.

THIS PATTERN IS A MALABRIGO QUICKIE!

This hat is one in a series of hats exploring world cultures and looking for new knitting inspiration in crafts, ethnic art and other areas not normally associated with knitting. I have turned Maori tattoos into knitwear as well as African fabric motifs and even a Cree inspired ceiling in a lodge in Minnesota. Old Swedish embroidery samplers provided the chickens in the first border, and Swedish Huck weaving (which is really embroidery) gave the idea for the angular motif in the upper section of the hat. Many Huck pieces remind me of reflecting pools, the bottom section often the mirror image of what is above.

There is even a tip of the hat, if you will, to the Saami people, some of whom live in the far north of Sweden, the diamonds symbolize the sun to this indigenous ethnic group. Three different inspirations blending into one hat in 3 sizes, Infant, Child & Adult, and all worked in soft Malabrigo Rios Worsted - soft, warm & more than just a little Swedish. Enjoy.

(105, 120, 135) yds / (96, 110, 124 ) m in Bobby Blue or (or desired MC)

Needles:
US 7 (4.5mm) 16 or 24 inch circular needles, OR size to obtain gauge
US 7 (4.5mm) DPNs OR same size as needles above
