Sweet Fantasy Granny Square Baby Blanket
This blanket has been a work in progress for a month or so. The progress was halted when I realized my blanket was smaller than expected. I had to go back and add squares on either side of the blanket to add to the size, which was no big deal, but then I ran out of the Fantasy colorway with one and a half squares left! To make matters worse, my local Hobby Lobby was out of the color and back ordered. Yikes! Finally got my hand on some though at a different Hobby Lobby a little further from me, and finished the blanket! And I LOVE IT!
This gorgeous little blanket is a great gift to give at a baby shower or for a new baby, or made bigger, it would be great for anyone! I plan on working on instructions for making the bigger sizes too, but for now, I only have the baby size.
Materials:
- 969 yards of a light weight worsted weight (4) yarn - I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton Yarn - about 2.25 skeins of Fantasy, about 2 skeins of Bright Teal, and about 1.33 skeins of Hot Orchid.
- I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends - I like to use a #18, or #20.
Material Notes:
You will get 8 squares out of the variegated yarn (Fantasy), and 9.5 squares out of the solid colored yarn (Teal).
This pattern will really work with any size yarn, the final size will just vary. The I Love This Cotton Yarn is a light weight worsted weight yarn.
Alternate yarns: Caron’s Simply Soft, Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice Yarn, Deborah Norville’s Everyday Soft, Lion Brand’s Wool Ease, Lion Brand’s Cotton Ease, Hobby Lobby’s Soft Secret Yarn.
Using a heavier worsted weight yarn, such as Lily Sugar n Cream, Red Heart’s With Love, Red Heart’s Super Saver, Caron’s One Pound, Bernat’s Super Value Yarn or Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn will result in a slightly larger blanket.
Time Spent:
This blanket took a lot more time than I thought it did! Because all of the squares are done individually, I didn’t even notice! This blanket was completed in approximately 12.75 hours - each square taking about 13 minutes each, the joining at just over ten minutes each way, and the border at about 30 minutes per round.
I’ve included my suggestion for construction down in the Pattern Notes section!
Measurement:
This baby blanket measures 30.5” x 30.5”.
You can always add to this by simply adding in more squares!
