Sometimes you just need a hat in a hurry. Maybe you need a quick gift, maybe you promised somebody you’d knit them something and you forgot, or maybe it just started snowing a lot and it’s cold.

This is your go-to.

This hat has 6 sizes, so you can whip it out for virtually anyone, from your niece’s baby to your coworker’s grandfather. It’s knitted back and forth on straight needles, which makes that cute intarsia heart on the front doable. Decreases at the top shape the crown, so the hat doesn’t dangle off the top of the lucky recipient’s head. Finishing is no big deal: mattress seam down the back, weave in the ends and you’re good to go. If you have time to spare, add a nice fluffy pompom, which amps up the adorbs factor and hides any wonky looking stitches at the top.

Any aran weight yarn will do here. I used acrylic so it can be thrown in the wash without fussing.
