Sweeties
For toy boxes or little charms, these sugar free treats are sure to sweeten your day. The assortment includes my pick n mix favourites: rhubarb and custard hard candies, ball lollipops, chocolate ice creams, foam bananas, gummy love hearts, fruit slices, milk and cola bottles, snakes, rings and cherries. These little sweets use simple increases and decreases for shaping, and each makes a super project for using up leftover yarn.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the toys are knit in DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round).
NEEDLES:
A pair of 4mm single pointed knitting needles (US 6)
RECOMMENDED YARN:
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; up to 25g in each colour.
NOTIONS:
Tapestry needle, toy filling or cotton wool balls for stuffing, a stitch holder to make each Gummy Heart , and a 10cm lollipop stick and strong glue for each Ball Lollipop.
SIZES:
One size only - Largest measurements of knitted pieces are as follows - rhubarb and custard hard candies 4cm long, ball lollipops 4cm diameter, chocolate ice creams 7cm tall, foam bananas 5cm long, gummy love hearts 4cm tall, fruit slices 5cm wide, milk and cola bottles 5cm tall, snakes 16cm long, rings 4cm tall and cherries 5cm tall.
TECHNIQUES:
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, short rows, changing colours at the end of a row, and seaming to finish.
