Symmetric Shawl
Symmetric is the second shawl of a series of three. It is a classic triangular shawl with symmetric ridges which I designed to show off the richness of semisolid hand dyed socks yarn. For this pattern, I used a red skein of yarn from my stash which I purchased directly from the dyer. It was there, calling for the right pattern. Dig into your stash: I’m sure there’s a special skein waiting… The border can be knitted two ways, either with a symmetric triangle pattern or in simple garter stitch. Let’s start to rock and roll!
Yarn: Fingering yarn, 450 yards. Sample shown was knit using Kangaroo Dyer Superwash Sock, 113 gr – 3.99 ounces, 450 yards of 75%Wool 25%Nylon, color Franklin.
Any semisolid yarn will do for this shawl ^_*
Needle and notions: US 6 - 4.0 mm or size to obtain gauge. Tapestry Needle, Blocking Wires, T-pins, 1 set of 5 Stitch Markers.
Gauge: Exact gauge is not critical for this project. However, a looser gauge will result in the use of more yardage. Gauge for stockinette sts after a gentle blocking is:
14 sts by 30 rows = 4” by 4” (10cm by 10cm)
Finished Measurement after blocking:
68” wide by 27” deep,
170 cm wide by 69 cm deep.
