Synergy Modular Lace Shawl
Synergy** is the joining together of two forces often resulting in an effect greater than the sum of each force.*
The basis for this shawl design comes from the combining of my two passions in knitting: lace and modular knitting.
In this shawl you get the ease, portability and color interest of modular knitting along with the grace and lightness of lace.
Each square is knit in blocks of garter stitch based lace, one block at a time. Blocks are knit on stitches picked up from existing blocks. Simple lace stitches are presented in chart format with supporting directions written out.
Buttons are added for conversion to shrug.
Suitable for an beginner to modular knitter.
Materials:
•7 balls Knitpicks Palette (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 231 yds/50g, fingering weight); see colors suggested below. Each square will use about 500yds.
•Size 7 (4.5mm) needles with sharp points like Knitpicks Harmony needles.
•2 sets size 8 (5mm) circular needles for finishing (exact size not necessary).
•Yarn needle
•2 light weight buttons (optional for shrug) @ ¾” across – these will be inserted into YO’s which will grow when blocked.
Measurements: The shawl is made of 3 squares, the shrug of 2. Unblocked squares measure 21” square and are blocked to a measurement of 30” square.
