This pattern is included in the book, Keepers of the Sheep: Knitting in Morocco’s High Atlas and Beyond.

The pattern is based on a traditional High Atlas hat pattern, which I learned from shepherds in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. It is knit from the top down. The pattern is written to reflect the oral nature of the knitting tradition. Any size needle and yarn will work; although, a DK or worsted weight yarn is best.
