Taighean - Mitts
This pattern is based around a simple house motif and uses 7 shade combinations. Each row of houses is a different shade, following a gradient, offset by a half motif from each previous row of houses. This design recalls colours I’ve enjoyed during my trips to Scotland.
‘Taighean’ means ‘houses’ in Scottish Gaelic.

Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% Wool; 30% Mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball)
1 ball of each of the following shades:
A Gloamin’
B Birkin
C Smirr
D Tarbet
E Ardlui
F Garth
G Stockiemuir

Needles and notions
Gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
Below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
Waste yarn (for holding thumb stitches) Stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Gauge
32 stitches and 36 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork in the round on gauge-size needle(s)
Use 3mm needle(s) as a starting point for swatching.

Size
To fit adult hand with 17-19cm / 6 1/2-7 1/2in circumference

Pattern notes
These mitts are worked from bottom to top. After the
long corrugated rib cuff, the hand is worked in stranded colourwork, with an incorporated thumb gusset. Corrugated rib (whose length can be extended, if a longer mitt is required) completes the top. The thumb top is similarly finished in corrugated rib.
