Each piece is knitted from the bottom up, using an interesting Feather and Fan pattern, that adds lots of structure to the soft soft yarn. The two identical pieces are joined seamlessly through the center to create the dramatic join along the back. The design keeps the shawl very wide, and it does not collapse in on itself as rectangular shawls in soft yarn tend to do.

The entire pattern is written out step by step, and consists of standard stitches. Generally it is much easier than it looks. The pattern starts with an i-cord tab and continues with an i-cord edging throughout to keep it neat and hide yarn changes. Errata: The legend for the chart includes a purl symbol (centered dot) which is actually a knit, and a knit symbol (open square) which is actually a purl on wrong side rows.
