Take 2
Several years ago I self-published a pattern for DK weight, garter stitch mittens that were knit sideways. The problem I ran into at that time was the cuffs. They weren’t able to snug against the wrist–and that let the cold in! Back then, the best solution I could find for the “gappiness” at the cuffs was to add an I-cord around the wrist. It looked great but they were clunky to make and awkward to wear. Meh.
When I reviewed the original design for The Queen’s Garters, I realized that the gaping could be fixed with a little mosaic knitting. I scrapped the original and completely reworked the design. The new mittens are easier to knit, more comfortable to wear, and more interesting visually, too They use bulky yarn which means they’re faster to knit and super warm. Take 2 comes in 4 sizes and will fit the whole family. We are most pleased!
