This vintage style sock pattern was inspired from magical days with my family playing in the rose garden in a small town called Rapperswil near Lake Zurich. I like to think of them as a reminder for us to slow down, take time out of our busy schedules and enjoy simple pleasures such as smelling the roses…or knitting some cozy socks!

These socks are knit from the cuff down with a 2 x 2 ribbed cuff, a ribbed heel-flap and gusset and have a section of colourwork on the leg and a section before the toe decreases. This pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but can be knit with dpns).

Sizing and gauge
Needle size is chosen according to the size required and your knitting gauge for the colour work sections. I would recommend going up a needle size for the colourwork sections from what you normally use to knit non-colourwork socks if you are unsure.

Sock Size 1 (Small): Foot circumference 19-20cm. Needle size 2.25mm (US 1) and gauge 38sts x 40 rounds per 10cm or 4”.

Sock Size 2 (Medium): Foot circumference 21-22cm. Needle size 2.5mm (US 1.5) and gauge 34sts x 38 rounds per 10cm or 4”
3 (Large) 23-24cm 2.75mm (US2) 32sts x 26 rounds.

Sock Size 3 (Large): Foot circumference 23-24cm. Needle size 2.75mm (US2) and gauge 32sts x 26 rounds.

Yarn required
Any Fingering weight 4 ply sock yarn can be used, approximately 370m (404yds) in total.

• Main Colour: Sweet Sparrow Yarns – Nuthatch in colourway Blackberry Mousse. 75/25 superwash merino / nylon sock yarn (approx. 40g / 1.4oz)
• Contrast Colour: Sweet Sparrow Yarns - House Wren in colourway Al Swearengen. 85/15 superwash merino/nylon tweed sock yarn (approx. 40g / 1.4oz)
