Tämän talven lumia
Tämä kauluri sai inspiraationsa kuluvan talven lumista. Se istuu hartioilla kuin tuore lumipeite. Käsinkehrätty lanka ja poimuttuvat röyhelökerrokset tuovat sileään pintaan elävyyttä. Kauluri neulotaan paksuilla puikoilla, jotta neulos on kuohkeaa ja laskeutuvaa.
Kuvan patsas on Katariina Saksilainen Helsingin Vanhankaupunginkoskella. Katariina on jähmettynyt hetkeen katse kiinnittyneenä talven pysähtyneeseen maisemaan.
This cowl was inspired by the white cover of snow on the landscape. It sits on the shoulders like fresh-fallen snow. Hanspun yarn and ruffles bring life to the plain stockinette surface. Pick slightly larger needles for this knit to achieve a nicely soft and drapey fabric.
I used a handspun alpaca-silk yarn, which was about DK weigh (100 g, 190 m). There are instructions to adjust the pattern also to lighter or heavier yarn.
The statue is Katariina Saksilainen, Queen of Sweden, overlooking the bay by which the city of Helsinki was founded. The pattern was originally published in Finnish in the free online knitting magazine Ulla, issue 1/2015.
An English translation is now available. Let me know if there are any mistakes.
May 2015: Ana HilosyLanas has very kindly made a Spanish translation for the pattern. Thank you very much!
