Crochet a tartan plaid pumpkin for your fall decor with this and easy tartan plaid crochet pumpkin pattern.

Once I decided to crochet a pumpkin, I realized I wanted to do something different than what was already out there. So I spent some time researching and planning.

Finally, I wondered if the tartan plaid technique I used in a blanket would work as a pumpkin design. I tried it out and loved it!!

I wanted something that would work up quickly, and I had these luscious fall colors for another design I’m working on, so Lion Brand Color Made Easy was a simple choice.

This yarn comes in a rainbow of colors, has a great feel to it (did I mention I’m using it in a larger project, too?), is easy to find and is very affordable. All great things in my book!

This pumpkin is crocheted flat and the vertical lines are added with a surface slip stitch. The sides are seamed.

Then, the bottom is closed and the pumpkin is filled with fiberfill and rice/beans/pellets if you decide to give it some weight.

Then the top is closed and leaves and stem are added as desired. The ends hide nicely inside so there is no need to weave in ends!
