Tay Sweater
This is a casual, loose fitting sweater with a split hemline, bracelet length sleeves and a round yoke with lace panels. Moss / Seed stitch is used at the hem and cuffs. Stripes are used to migrate from the lighter shade to the darker shade of blue and beads are distributed evenly throughout the upper part of the sweater.
Summary of construction.
Designed for women of average height (5ft 6”) and worked from the bottom up, this beaded sweater is initially worked in two separate pieces. The pieces are then placed on a single circular needle and joined for working in the round up to the under arm. Sleeves are also worked in the round from cuff to under arm. All pieces are then placed on one long needle and worked in the round. Short rows are used at the back to create a more flattering and comfortable neckline. The yoke is worked in the round and the neckline is beaded and finished with an i-cord bind off. The beads adds texture and subtle sparkle whilst the extra weight further enhances the drape.
The main body of the sweater up to the armholes is completely straight with no shaping. There is no reason why you couldn’t add A-line shaping here to accommodate a more pear-shaped recipient. Likewise, you could make it narrower if you prefer. Remember that you will need to adjust your yarn and bead quantities accordingly.
21st February 2019 - Errata - There were some errors in the Moss Stitch sections in the split hem. These errors have now been rectified. My sincere apologies to everyone!
