Tell It Slant
Tell all the truth
But tell it slant. ~Emily Dickinson
The pattern includes instructions for both a raglan sleeved version and set-in sleeves.
Worked from the shoulders-down and almost entirely in the round, the set-in sleeve version of Tell it Slant works the sleeve caps simultaneously with the upper bodice in a technique originally described by Barbara Walker (photo tutorial included). If you prefer to work the raglan version, you will cast on for the back of the neck and the sleeves while gradually adding sts to the front for the scooped neckline. Raglan increases are worked as usual to create the upper bodice.
Both versions are identical below the underarms, and use the same instructions. Raglan knitters will be directed to join the instructions included in the set-in version at this point.
Short rows are used to give a new angle on the color-block sweater. Choose three colors within a gradient, or work in contrasting or complimentary colorways. Shaping is at the sides to avoid interfering with color angles, and the garment is intended to be worn with anywhere from -1” to +2” of ease, so choose a size that is closest to your bust measurement.
