Tempest
Tempest is inspired by the bands on a weather map indicating weather fronts moving in: jagged, spaced arcs that indicate what’s about to come! It’s a long, jagged gentle crescent shape with short rows, a simple eyelet border, and one large band that uses most of a skein of Self-striping yarn to really highlight those gorgeous stripes!
This pattern is exclusive to the full geoknittrix collection III E-Book!
Size: 95 in/242 cm along the length of the scarf X 11 in/28 cm at the widest part of the shawl. Shawl size may vary, depending on individual knitter’s gauge, yarns used, and blocking preferences.
Recommended yarn: Two colors of fingering weight yarn; one in a solid/tonal/semi-solid/speckle and the other in a self-striping, gradient, or crazy variegated to make the sideways band POP!
Sample Used:
- NBK Merino Fingering Singles (100% Merino; 400 yd/366 m) in the color way “Tainted Love” (MC - solid)
- 716knit 716sock (80% Merino/20% Nylon; 400 yd/ 365 m) in the color way: “The Seaward” (CC – self-striping)
Yardage:

Gauge: 6 sts to the inch/cm in Garter stitch on a US size 5/3.75 mm needle.
