TEMPESTAS
Roman Goddess of weather.
33% of the profits from this pattern will be donated to Climate Feedback. Know the true facts in climate news!
The Tempestry Project gather temperature data and create fabulous weaving and knit/crochet pieces of work to show how the planet’s temperature is on the up. They have exhibited in multiple museums across the U.S. to show their Climate Change temperature tapestries, or Tempestries.
I wanted to create a fun quick knitting pattern that depicted these Tempestries on a smaller scale and the result is Tempestas.
Tempestas is a fast top-down two colour brioche cowl project, that I hope will bring some climate thinking and new brioche skills into your knitting world. There are several colour palettes (kits) to choose from the 100% U.S. sourced merino, milled & dyed in Pennsylvania exclusively for The Tempestry Project.
YARN KITS
Tempestas is knit using Tempestry’s own Worsted US sourced merino wool, that is milled and dyed in Pennsylvania exclusively for The Tempestry Project.
There are several colourful temperature kits to choose from. The Tempestry team have created four temperature zones colours combinations to pick from for this cowl. These represent different temperature zones from around the world, from the cool Polar Zone to the Temperate Zone to the warm Equatorial Zone, as well as the New Normal temperatures from the 1950’s to the noughties!

Tapestry/Darning needle

GAUGE
15 sts x 20 rnds = 10cm x 10cm (4”x 4”) in two colour brioche worked in the round after blocking.
Tip: Please swatch in MC and CC6. An extra 8g of MC and CC6 has been included in the yarn requirements for those yarns.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
Tempestas is worked in one piece, from the top down. Hidden increases in the garter sections allow for the shaping without using Brioche sts for the increases. The final section welcomes you into the brioche world of increases and decreases.
Full video instruction for two colour brioche, fixing brioche errors (links under Techniques on page 3) and each of the brioche increase, and decreases stitches is included in this pattern (links under Brioche Abbreviations on page 3).
The final brioche section is charted on page 6.
Finally, the cowl is finished with an elastic bind off.
