FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Finished shawl measures 47” [119.5 cm] wide by 23” [58.5 cm] deep at center after blocking.

MATERIALS
850 yards [775 meters] of DK weight yarn needed
Sample shown is knit in Green Mountain Spinnery Mewesic (180 yards [165 meters] / 57g), in color “Mean Mr. Mustard”; requires 5 skeins.

GAUGE
20 stitches x 29 rows = 4” [10 cm] in 1x1 twisted ribbing with gauge needle, after blocking
Note: Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but changes to pattern gauge will impact both finished measurements and yardage required.

SUGGESTED NEEDLES
One 60” [150 cm] circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge
Suggested size: US 5 / 3.75 mm

NOTIONS
Stitch markers (up to 43 may be used, with one in a different color or style to designate center of shawl), smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on, yarn needle for weaving in ends, blocking wires and T-pins, double-pointed needles (optional, for Garter Tab Cast On)

DIFFICULTY
Advanced-Intermediate: Skills required for this pattern include provisional cast-on, increasing and decreasing. Instructions are provided for special techniques, as described below.

PATTERN STYLE
Instructions for stitch patterns are provided in both charted and written form.

This pattern includes a “Chart Sequence Diagram” that graphically illustrates the sequence of charts worked for each section of the shawl. It is not necessary to utilize this diagram in order to knit this pattern; however, knitters who prefer visual instructions to written ones may find this a helpful ‘cheat sheet’ to work from once they have gotten their shawl underway.
