“Inspired by the flowering vine of the sweet autumn clematis, Clematis terniflora, this pattern follows the cascading trails of blooming flowers,” says Jem Arrowsmith. “As the flowers mature, they become fluffy, feathered seedheads, which is depicted by the use of mohair throughout the shawl.” Jem has knitted her shawl using two laceweight yarns from her own hand-dyed range, Under the Olive Tree Knits“ - The Knitter Magazine.

This pattern was originally published in the Knitter Magazine (issue 164).

The shawl is knitted with 2 strands of laceweight yarn held together, the sample used a light, shimmering merino silk paired with the fluffy mohair.

Alternatively you could use another contrast shade of lace yarn instead of the mohair if you prefer.

I recommend using sharp tipped needles for this project due to the lace stitches.

Stitches Used – Sl1 wyif, yo, knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, m1l, m1r, k-tbl

Sizes – One size

Measurements – The finished, blocked shawl has a wingspan of 76” (193cm) and a depth of 28” (71cm)

Materials

• Yarn A - 60g / 2.1oz, 875 yds / 480m laceweight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern is Under the Olive Tree Knits Lace Yarn 80% Extra Fine Merino / 20% Silk in Terracotta
• Yarn B - 100g / 3.5oz, 918 yds / 840m Mohair Lace. The yarn used in the pattern is Under the Olive Tree Knits Mohair Lace Yarn 72% Kid Mohair / 28% Silk, undyed
• 1 x US size 4 (3.5mm) 40” (100cm) circular needle
• A tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

Gauge: 27 stitches and 30 rows to 4” (10cm) in the Travelling Vine Lace Pattern stitch after blocking
