Pattern directions call for Woolease yarn, a heavy worsted, using size 4mm/US 6 DPN’s. Both pairs of socks pictured in the pattern were knit with size 3.5mm/4 US needles, one using 2 strands of sock/fingering weight yarn (Wildfoote), and one pair using Woolease, both following the pattern except for the needle size. The dark green Ravelry featured socks were made on size 2.5mm/US1 needles, with Opal fingering weight yarn, using a cast on of 70 stitches.

From the pattern notes:

“I was playing with the “fir pine” pattern from Barbara Walker but found that only the first half was practical for socks. So I guess you might consider them to be a “half fir pine” sock (well, half is better than none). It is a very easy pattern to work with only two rows and one of them is just knit. I made these of chestnut colored Wool Ease but any worsted type yarn would do nicely. “
