In this pattern use of slip stitches moves the color of hand-painted yarns around and plays to its strengths. It will work equally well whether a skein is wildly variegated or subtly hand-dyed. The stitch pattern creates a reversible effect that adds texture and depth.

The two row pattern repeat is easy to remember and easy to read (so you don’t have to keep track of rows). It’s a perfect portable project. We’ve tested this theory by knitting it in movie theaters, school concerts, and just about every where we went.

The pattern works for Fingering or Aran weight yarns.

Fingering Yardage: Small 175 yards; Large 400 yards.

Aran Yardage: Small 180 yards; Large 476 yards.

Fingering Sizes: Small 7.5” x 21.5”; Large 8.5” x 42”.

Aran Sizes: Small 8” x 24”; Large 8.5” x 53”.

Gauge for Fingering Version on US #6: In Slip Stitch Rib Pattern
Unblocked: 27 sts/52 rnds = 4”
(Wet) Blocked: 23 sts/48 rnds = 4”

Gauge for Aran Version on US #10: In Slip Stitch Rib Pattern
Unblocked: 24 sts/32 rnds = 4”
(Wet) Blocks: 18 sts/40 rnds = 4”
