The inspiration for this design happened when I was wandering our local Indian community. I kept seeing brightly coloured Sari’s everywhere. I’ve always loved the shawls that are often worn with a Sari, and the detailing on the end of the Sari that is worn on the upper body. Why couldn’t I knit something that echoed these brilliant fabrics and textures?

This piece is knit using Intarsia techniques, to allow for very geometrical colour blocking. Each square gets a texture, and the majority of the instructions are in a chart, to allow it to be easily followed. It could be made using any two of the colours offered in this yarn. I highly recommend choosing a darker shade for Colour A, and a lighter shade for Colour B.

It’s also possible to ignore the shading in the charts and work the design in a solid colour for a more subtle look.
