The Amplitude Vertical Striped Stockings
A wee bit quirky or quite proudly mad? These gloriously tall striped stockings provide a cozy outlet for expression. Highly customizable to both your shape and favorite colors - you should see the collection the Ladies have between them!
These stockings are knit flat back and forth around the leg rather than toe up or top down. The shaping for the stockings is incorporated by using short rows. While the common wrap and turn method is specified, you may use any short row method that you like. There is short row shaping throughout the stocking to fit the leg, with shorter short rows in the front for the thigh and longer short rows in the back to shape the calf.
The heel is created by paired increases on one side and then paired decreases on the other. The toe is created by picking up stitches around the bottom of the stocking and shaping in a traditional method.
Because this color pattern has single rows of color, the working end of the yarn for your next row may be at the opposite end of the needle. When that is the case, simply turn your work and beginning working with the appropriate color from the other end.
Be sure to leave slack as you carry yarn up the sides and twist your yarns as you go. If you don’t allow enough give for your yarn, the toe and thigh will be too tight. If you want, you may break your yarn and weave in the ends instead. The chart shows the basic color pattern. The reverse stockinette rows provide texture and elasticity for the stockings. Once you find the rhythm of the pattern, it flows quite nicely.
