The Bern Hat pattern is a great pattern for beginning knitters who are just starting to learn cables--the pattern is simple and repetitive, but makes a beautiful and classic hat. It’s easy to make in just a day or two.

The pattern is for a one-size-fits-all hat, but instructions are given on how to reduce or increase the size of the hat to whatever you need, whether it’s for a baby or child. The given pattern should fit most adults.

Skill Level: Easy
You will need to know how to knit in the round on circular needles, and how to knit and purl.

Suggest yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease in Grey Heather. Any worsted weight yarn will work, however.

Needle size: 4mm, 16 inch circular needles

You will want to make a swatch to check the gauge, as the stockinette stitch is not actually used in the pattern. However having the exact correct gauge is not as critical to this pattern as long as you’re using a worsted weight yarn.
