The Better Sweater - Worsted
There, I said it! This crochet sweater pattern is just BETTER!
Introducing The Better Sweater, a totally unique crochet pattern that produces the softest, slouchiest, most seamless crochet sweater you’ve ever made!
On top of how beautiful it looks with modern, trendy color blocking and a slouchy dropped shoulder fit with billowy balloon sleeves, the construction of this sweater is what sets it apart from others.
Let me tell you about just some of the things that make this sweater better…
1. Light weight!
- even while using single crochet, this sweater is light weight and drapey just like a knit sweater! That’s because it uses the “linen stitch,” (aka the moss stitch) which is essentially sc, ch1. Then, on every round, you work 1sc in the ch1 space of the previous round. Making a light, airy, stretchy fabric that perfectly mimics knitting with crochet!
2. No seam!
- well, you will have a small gap to seam in the underarms when you’re done. But specifically, what I mean is that there is no slip stitch “seam” from joining the ends of your rounds. Because, this whole pattern is worked in a spiral! No visible seams!
3. No tight foundation chains
- No need to worry about a tight sleeve or neckline. There are no foundation chains around any of the openings of this sweater! This is due to its unique bottom-up construction.
So, is it beginner friendly? Not exactly. This pattern will have a few accompanying video tutorials that will help demonstrate some of the more unique parts of the pattern, like joining the sleeves to the body and working the round yoke decreases, but you should be comfortable reading patterns, counting stitches, placing markers and confidence working slip stitch ribbing wouldn’t hurt.
Now, let’s get into some of the stats
Yarn and Hook:
This pattern uses a heavy worsted weight yarn like Caron One Pound or Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran and a 6mm US J hook.
Stitch Markers:
You’ll also need about 12 stitch markers
