The Elders Of The Internet
Jen Barber. Young, exciting, beautiful, and completely over her head. Capable of receiving, composing, and sending emails, and for some reason made head of the IT department of Reynholm Industries without being able to define what exactly IT means. The butt of her subordinates’ jokes, but also valued by them for being able to diffuse awkward social situations. They are as baffled by Jen as they are baffling to Jen.
The Elders of the Internet is a stranded colourwork hat that is a nod to Jen’s computer naivety and also to her ability to talk her way out of situations. Using binary code (the computer’s native language), the hat spells out “I am Jen Barber, Relationship Manager, IT”
Materials Needed:
Yarn recommended is a mid-range fingering weight yarn with a high twist, and a put up of 400 yards per 100 grams.
- @178 yards main colour (colour A)
- @72 yards contrast colour (colour B)
- 2.75mm (US 2) circular needle or dpns or size needed to make gauge
Gauge: 32 stitches by 34 rows over 4”/10cm in stranded colourwork worked in the round
Size Information:
one size - finished circumference @21”, fits heads 21” to 23”
Because the number of 0s and 1s needed to spell out the message are so many, the hat comes in only one size; there is simply no easy way to increase or decrease the number of stitches needed. Size may be adjusted somewhat by working with heavier yarn or at a tighter or looser gauge.
Pattern Instruction Format:
The pattern is fully written; you do not need to refer to the charts to knit this pattern.
The pattern is also partially charted; the ribbing and crown decreases are written only, but the colourwork section between is additionally charted.
