The Gardiner Hat is a ‘twist’ on the classic 1x1 rib pattern--it uses twisted knit and purl stitches to create a thick and cozy beanie that will keep you extra warm on those cold winter days. It’s a great beginner hat, especially for those knitters who want to try out something new.

The pattern is for a one-size-fits-all hat, but instructions are given on how to reduce or increase the size of the hat to whatever you need, whether it’s for a baby or child. The given pattern should fit most adults.

Skill Level: Beginner-Easy
You will need to know how to knit in the round on circular needles, and how to knit and purl. Instructions given on how to complete the twisted knit and purl stitches.

Suggest yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Sequoia.

Needle size: 10mm, 16 inch circular needles

The gauge is 11 stitches and 17 rows to 5” in the stockinette stitch. The pattern, as written, will most likely use the entire skein of yarn.
