Oh Venus was born out of sea foam
Oh Venus was born out of brine
But the goddess today if she is grade A
Is assembled upon the assembly line…

Ideas for mittens can come from anywhere, and the inspiration doesn’t even need to be visual. These were inspired by lyrics from the above song, The Real Tuesday Weld’s version of “The Girl with the Pre-Fabricated Heart.” This parable of love and perfection in the age of plastic originally appears in Hans Richter’s 1947 surrealist film Dreams That Money Can Buy. On these mittens I’ve tried to convey the image of the classical goddess as she might appear had she been
imagined in the 20th century era of impersonal mass production.
