Isn’t it funny how the some of the most basic accessories in our wardrobe often become our most favourite? Created from a straightforward, easy-to-memorize, slipped stitch pattern—with simple crown decreases—The Gunther Hat is destined to become one of those beloved basics.

YARN
Approximately 160 yds (145 m) of a sport or light-DK weight yarn.
Main colour: 110 yds (100 m) + Contrast Colour: 50 yds (45 m).
2-Tone Blue Version shown in BG Garn Semilla (100% GOTS certified organic wool); 175 yds (160 m) / 50 g.
Brown Marl + Ivory Version shown in Cascade Yarns Eco Alpaca (100% Alpaca); 219 yds (200 m) / 100g.

NEEDLES
Size 3.5 mm (US 4) 16”/40 cm circular needle (ribbing).
Size 3.75 mm (US 5) 16”/40 cm circular needle (body).
Size 3.75 mm (US 5) double-pointed needles x 4 (crown).

GAUGE
25 stitches & 52 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Waffle Check Pattern, after blocking.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
19” (48 cm) circumference x 7.75” (19.5 cm) length, after blocking. To fit approx. 22” (56 cm) head circumference.

The stitch & round multiples on which GUNTHER is based are now included in the pattern. For less experienced knitters who want to make a different size, the math is now provided.
