The Hot Chocolate Hoodie / Sweater
This is a very simple & speedy make but looks great and is so comfortable to wear. The chunky yarn & oversized hook create a lovely soft & floppy, yet textured fabric with a super cosy & relaxed feel. There are two different hood options & a simple sweater neckline option & an optional front pocket/pouch for toasty hands too! The result is a practical, snuggly hoodie / sweater that is perfect for over a long sleeved base layer in the winter months but also lovely to throw on as the nights get cooler through the warmer seasons.
The pattern has been thoroughly tested by a large group of fabulous testers who have tested every size to ensure accuracy & clarity. I have made sure this pattern is as beginner-friendly as possible with a schematic, photos & videos added where visual instruction may be helpful.
Skill level: Adventurous beginner upwards
Materials required:
Yarn: 442 - 1117 yards / 404 - 1021 metres of any of the suggested yarns, depending on size (others yarns may vary).
Hooks: 7mm (10.75) crochet hook or hook needed to obtain gauge. 6mm (J/10) crochet hook (5mm (H/8) if you prefer a rib variation) or hooks 1mm / 2mm smaller than gauge hook.
Notions: Stitch markers, tape measure, tapestry needle & scissors.
Sizing:
The pattern includes seven sizes from approx Age 1 to 14, actual chest circumference from 19” to 31.5” / 48.5cm to 80cm.
Finished measurements:
The hoodie has a positive ease of 1.5” to 4” or 3cm to 9cm with finished measurements of 22.5” to 33.5” / 56.5cm to 83.5cm. Of course, you can always size up or down for a looser or more snug fit.
Construction:
This drop shoulder hoodie is worked from the bottom up with two identical body panels that are attached at the shoulders. The sleeves are crocheted directly onto the body, as are the ribbed band & neckline edging. Both hood options are made separately & attached sewn to the neckline. The optional front pocket/pouch is crocheted separately & then attached at the end.
Gauge:
With a 7mm hook in HDC blo, 12 stitches by 8 rows = 4” x 4” / 10cm x 10cm.
