From Knitting Lingerie Style:

As undergarments took on more prominence throughout the 19th century, the amount of adornment on them increased–at least those worn closest to the outside of the body. The corset cover, for example, was usually much more heavily decorated than the camisole worn beneath it, and it often showcased several types of needlework. The particular garment that inspired this lace tee had vertical panels of drawn thread work running up and down the body, and thickly embroidered floral cutwork at the hem and sleeves.

To mimic the original patterning without needing to work different types of needlework, I chose two different lace stitches. A floral lace pattern trims the hem, sleeves and flattering square neck, and the vertical lace lines produce a close-fitting, feminine silhouette.
