The Light of Spring
The Light of Spring is a delicate shawl with dashes of Spring color and sparkling beads. The combination of lace weight MC and a heavier yarn for the color motifs creates an unusual contrast of stitch size and transparency.
Knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles
MC: approximately 840yds/770m of Green Elephant 2ply lace weight yarn 100% superwash merino, Raspberry Ripple colorway
CC: approximately 250m/275yds of Jamieson’s Spindrift 100% Shetland wool in a wide range of shades
95 full CC motifs require 2.15m/2.33yds each, 32 half motifs require 1.25m/1.33yds each and four quarter motifs require 75cm/30ins
578 size 6 glass beads of various colors are added with a crochet hook; I used mainly pink, red & clear beads, with some metallics & cooler colors.
Dimensions: approximately 66in/168cm long by 24in/61cm wide
Gauge: approximately 22 stitches and 25 rows = 4ins/10cm
Techniques include lace knitting, intarsia, stranding, trapping,
knit/purl texture in the CC motifs & background, and beading.
This is a charted pattern with notes and short written instructions, and photo tutorials on splicing and placing beads with a crochet hook.
