The North Sea
Named for the sea situated between Shetland and the Norwegian coast, this hat celebrates the shared heritage between the knitting traditions of Norway and Shetland. While the sample uses five different colors, the pattern never uses more than two colors in a round. The small amounts of each color needed make it a great stashbuster.
Due to the large size of the motif, the pattern is written for only one size (20” / 51 cm circumference). For a smaller size hat, you may wish to use a smaller needle size and/or DK-weight yarn instead; for a larger hat, larger needles and/or aran-weight yarn. Swatch for gauge for best results.
The motif chart is in black and white so that it can be filled in with your own color combinations, with the sample colors indicated for each row in columns on the side.
Read about The Shetland Bus, the book that inspired the pattern, on my blog.
The finished circumference is: 20” / 51 cm
