The Pamela Creegan Keffiyeh
This design is inspired by the “keffiyeh” scarves I see being worn on the streets of Toronto. I like the look of the tiny repetitive weaving pattern motifs and the short fringes that surround the cotton fabric. I wanted to reinterpret the woven scarf into a knitted format with a simple knit and purl stitch pattern. The scarf is created as a shallow, bottom up triangle. It can easily be adapted to any weight of yarn or yardage by working fewer or more rows. The stitch patterns are easily memorized and have a nice flow once the patterns are established. The edges have a series of yarn overs to allow for easy placement of the fringes. The instructions include both a charted and a written version of the stitch pattern, so that you can use whichever format you prefer.
