THE PHOEBE HAT
Meet Phoebe. A delightfully quirky winter hat you’ll want to knit again and again! Light as air, soft as a kitten, and feminine in a street-smart kind of way, Phoebe is an utterly addictive knit that works up surprisingly quickly using chunky yarn and stranded colour work.

YARN
A lofty ‘chunky’ weight yarn (blown and /or chainette yarns work well) in approximately the following amounts: MC: 85 yds (80 m) + CC1: 50 yds (45 m) + CC2: 5 yds (4.5 m). If omitting CC2, allow 90 yds (85 m of MC).

Pink/Grey/White Version Shown in Blue Sky Fibers Techno (68% Alpaca, 22% Silk, 10% Merino wool); 119 yds (109 m) / 50 g.

Gold/Ivory/Light Grey Version Shown in Katia Concept Ultralight Merino (93% Merino wool, 7% Polyamide); 120 yds (110 m) / 50 g.

NOTE ‘Chunky’ is a yarn weight classification that (sadly) is no longer in use. The weight is between Aran and Bulky--typical ball band gauge of 14-16 sts per 4” (10 cm) / US 9 (6mm) needle.

NEEDLES
Size US 8 (5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle (ribbing).
Size US 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle (body).
Size US 10.5 (6.5 mm) double-pointed needles x 4 (crown).

GAUGE
18 stitches & 19 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Chart, after blocking.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
20” (51 cm) circumference x 8.5” (21.5 cm) length, after blocking. To fit approx. 22” (56 cm) head circumference.

FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT
The stitch & round multiples on which PHOEBE is based are now included in the pattern. For less experienced knitters who want to make a different size, the math is now provided. More experienced knitters can use this same information to make decisions about yarn substitution, gauge etc. I hope this helps empower you to understand your knitting better and to find your perfect fit!
