The Samwise Socks
The Samwise Socks were designed in the middle of the 2020 Covid – 19 pandemic, while I was watching a Lord of the Rings marathon with my husband. I love the series, and by far my favorite character in the trilogy is Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. He is a solid hero in many different ways, and I like to think that IF hobbits wore socks, he might have worn a pair of these!
These socks have a beautiful and whimsical cable detail, using a sport weight yarn. The thicker yarn makes them a fast project to whip up, with a coziness that is perfect for winter months.
This sock pattern is written in US Standard Terms.
I recommend this pattern for intermediate knitters, so you are easily able to work the cable details.
Sizing is as follows:
Sizes: Small, Medium, and Large.
Small is the size used on the model, who normally wears a size 6.5 -7 US Shoe size. For Medium, US Shoe size 8 – 9, and Large for larger shoe sizes.
Construction uses the classic heel flap and gusset technique.
I carefully wrote this pattern so you could use DPN’s, 9 inch circular needles, or the magic loop method. I want you to be able to make these socks with whatever tools you are comfortable with, or have accessible (my personal favorite is the 9 inch circular needles). The pattern is written in reference to stitch counts and stitch markers.
