The Seed Stitch Saga
Pattern description
Julie’s friend Tracy was trying to knit a scarf in seed stitch but she kept getting confused--was she supposed to knit the first stitch or purl it? She just did not understand how this was different than a rib stitch. So Julie explained that seed stitch is just a messed up rib; you knit over your purls and purl over your knits. And if you cast on an odd number of stitches you can K1, P1 every row--you don’t have to think about it. Tracy finally got the concept and she finished her scarf. She loved the great texture and the ease of the stitch, so she decided to make this seed stitch cardigan for her son, Ryan.
Yarn is worked double throughout the sweater--this means you should hold 2 strand of yarn together as though they are 1.
