ever gone to a fiber festival or show, only to find yourself drawn to this bright skein over here and that moody skein over there, etc.?

i have done this oh so many times. then i come home with a group of single skeins that moved me, but that i have no idea what to do with. yikes. this pattern asks you to pick (both from what you already have and from wherever yarn moves you to buy it) 12 different skeins of dk weight yarn, each to represent 1 of 12 emotions listed in the pattern.

this project can be a ‘cairn’: a memory marker of what colorways made you feel in the moments that were ‘now’ as you knit it. or it can be a meditative knit, one where you consider the emotions each skein represents as you knit, watching the colorways and feeling your emotions interact with each other as you go along. perhaps you are not a touchy feely type? then this project might be a challenge, one that will push you to stretch and grow just a little. that’s ok, too. we all need to stretch and grow just a little…

feel free to substitute emotionson the list if you feel i’ve missed ones that are key to your days, to your existence. and feel free to use 2 skeins of the same colorway to represent 2 different emotions, as long as that rings true with your core.

also, you can play with yarn combos. a sport weight strand, held together with a mohair or lace weight strand, is equal to a dk weight strand. 2 light fingering weight strands held together also equal a dk weight strand. now, what does knowing that make you want to combine to better capture the way your emotions look to you? it’s a bit like chemistry, no?

the only rule: make this wrap 100% yours (because that’s all it was really meant to be anyway). then, please post pics on your rav project page so that we can all share in this outward picture you’re creating of your own innermost journey. and thank you for sharing!

here are the dk colorways shown in my wrap (and the emotions i chose them to represent):

sad: yarn over new york ‘sol levant’
gratitude: twisted owl fiber studio’s ‘birds of a feather’
joy: stitch together studio’s ‘smelly jellies’ with a mohair strand
motivation: molly girl yarn’s ‘sweet’s child o’mine’’
fear: lola bean yarn company’s ‘gluttony’
doubt: lavender lune’s ‘shadow singer’
anger: knitted wit’s ‘nasty woman’
confusion: kim dyes yarn’s ‘mosaic’
safety: hawari bazaar yarn co’s ‘it’s alive’
calm: the fiber seed’s ‘the dark crystal’
growth: diarus makes’ ‘northern lights’
excitement: chasing rabbits fiber co’s ‘tiger lily’
